General information

Although Terminal 5 was originally designed back in 1989, construction didn't commence until November 2001. The terminal building was completed in 2008 and opened its doors to passengers on March 27th 2008. The terminal building has the capacity to handle up to 30 million passengers per year and features five large floors.

Passengers should have no trouble locating the correct check-in desk at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 as they are currently all owned by British Airways. There are large television monitors above each check-in desk to show passengers which flights are currently being processed there as well as other strategically placed monitors around the terminal building to aid and assist passengers. Although the check-in process is usually extremely quick it is best to allow plenty of time before the flight as the terminal building usually receives large numbers of passengers.

Facilities

After completing the check-in process passengers will be able to check out the excellent shopping opportunities that are available at Terminal 5. This is the perfect time to purchase last minute travel items in shops such as Boots and the Excess Baggage Company or use the savings that Duty Free shopping provides to pick up gifts for loved ones in outlets of Bulgari, Dior, Gucci and Harrod's Signature. People who are in search of a little refreshment will also be able to take their pick from excellent on-site eateries such as Bagel Street, Apostrophe, Huxley’s and Gordon Ramsay Plane Food.
